If you fail to plan, plan to fail...

Taking charge of your day can be one of the most crucial work-life balance skills that a person can learn. While flexibility and adaptability are also quality skill sets, it's important to know when to draw a line in the sand. At the end of the day, you are being paid to do a particular job and by not taking charge of your day, it allows others to take charge of it for you. Reading through the rest of this article will help you acquire the information you need to make adjustments to your day as needed.

To add or adjust answering rules, they must be first setup in the Time Frames Interface. For more information on Time Frames, refer to our solution article here.

What Do I Click?

Adjusting ring time

Click the Answering Rules Icon → click the drop down box on the left  to alter the number of seconds your phone will ring in 5 second intervals.

To ring indefinitely, choose unlimited at the bottom of the list. The system will update the ring time automatically.

Adding an answering rule

Click the Answering Rules Icon → click the blue Add Rule button which brings up the New Rule Menu.

    A. Selecting time frames

Select a business hour time frame from the drop-down menu.

NOTE: These must be setup first in the Time Frames Interface.

    B. Adjusting DND and call screening functions

Check or uncheck the check boxes to toggle Call Screening and Do Not Disturb ("DND").

    C. Adjusting situational call forwards

Check/uncheck the boxes to determine how calls are to be routed in different scenarios. Then enter the extension/number/phone that calls should be routed to in that instance. You can have multiple options per answer rule.

In the 4th section, choose how you’d like phones to be rung by selecting the check boxes. Simultaneous Ring will ring all phones at the same time. Your extension will be checked automatically if the check box at the bottom of the window is set to “Just ring user’s extension.” You can also choose to ring all phones set to your extension/number. For numbers that are outside of your network, you can toggle to have answer confirmation on.

    E. Adding phones to ring within a rule

In the 4th section, you can enter an extension/number in the type box and click the green “+” to add those phones.

To create a ring delay of up to 25 seconds, click the clock and slide the bar to the desired number of seconds.

    F. Finding star codes/feature codes to toggle Holiday answering rules

Click the Answering Rules Icon → under Star Codes are the feature codes to toggle that rule on/off.

    G. Reprioritizing answering rules
